COVID-19 Updates

November 13, 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians:

You may have heard the news that the County of San Diego has moved to the most restrictive tier of the state reopening system and wonder what it means for The O’Farrell Charter Schools.

The new “purple” tier designation identifies that there is a widespread level of COVID-19 cases in our county.  This means O’Farrell & Ingenuity will not be permitted to open our campuses for in-person instruction until the county has returned to, and stays in the red tier.  We will remain distance learning through the holidays and assess where we are in this pandemic in January.

We are closely monitoring the situation and will continue to work with local public health officials as we move forward. I will continue to share updates as they become available. You can also find the most current information on our reopening plans at and

I appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we adjust through these changing conditions.

Estimados Padres/Tutores:

Update from the Office of our Superintendent, 10/21/20:

We wanted to reach out to you with the latest information regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, and to give an update on a data point The O’Farrell Charter Schools (OCS) is using to monitor the situation. This information changes rapidly and while this letter is current as of the date above, the information below may change again in the coming weeks. As always, we will keep you informed of any changes as we are made aware of them.

You may have heard the news over the past weeks that the County of San Diego has come close to being dropped to the lowest tier of the state reopening system. The new case rate per 100,000 residents is currently 7.0. If the County continues to rise, it may mean additional restrictions for schools and businesses.

Our neighborhood has significantly higher rates of infection than the County as a whole. The 92114 zip code has 10.82 cases per 100,000 residents, 92113 has a case rate of 19.06, and 92139 has a case rate of 10.76. You can find the most current information for your area on the San Diego County Office of Education’s COVID by zip code website. Based on the data listed above, at this time, we do not have an official reopening date.

When we do reopen, we will prioritize safety for all staff members and students. We will also continue to offer the option of a distance learning program. In the meantime, OCS will continue to serve our students with engaging instruction and a rigorous educational curriculum. In addition to providing a robust distance learning program, we are offering ongoing technology support, meal pick up Monday through Friday for all children under 18, and social-emotional support through Family Support Services and our school counselors. If there is anything we can do to support your student and your family during this time, please reach out to the principal of your school.

We will continue to share updates as they become available. Each school has been reaching out regularly to gather input on thoughts, concerns, and needs. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we navigate through these challenging times.
