The O'Farrell Charter School

Winner of the National Excellence in Urban Education Award

Greetings Families!

My name is Andrea Shaw, and I am going to be your child’s Homebase, ELA, and Social Studies for the 2018-2019 school year. This is my sixth year teaching at the O'Farrell Charter School.

I was born and raised here in San Diego. I grew up in this area and was a student here at O’Farrell when it became a charter school. I am grateful for the opportunity to give back to my community.  I attended California State University Northridge where I received my Bachelors of Arts in Liberal Studies and California teaching credential. I received my Master’s Degree in Education through National University. I also hold a California Reading Certificate from National University.

Technology is growing rapidly in our world and is a vital part of our children’s education. We will use a lot of it in the classroom this year. Every day we will be using laptops to support our learning. We will be using different programs online including, Google Classroom, Khan Academy, MyMath, Accelerated Reader, BrainPop among other websites. I also have a class website where you can find updated classroom news, upcoming tests and projects, our homework assignments, and commonly used links.

This year we have expanded by another fifth grade class and your child will be rotating ELA /Social Studies and Math/Science classes for the core subjects.  Ms. James will be teaching Math and Science and I will be teaching ELA and Social Studies to half of the fifth grade students. If your child is in our group of students please feel free to contact Ms. James or myself directly.

Thank You

Andrea Shaw
