Welcome to the High School Counseling page! I am the School Counselor taking over last names M-Z. I am excited to be part of the O'Farrell team!
I am originally from Northeast Los Angeles; proud of my Guatemalan heritage and adoptive Chicano culture. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Trinity College, a small Liberal Arts college in Hartford, Connecticut. At Trinity, I was very dedicated to several extracurricular activities including: La Voz Latina, a head tutor at the Writing Center, and worked in both Admissions as well as the Welcome Center. After finishing at Trinity, I moved to East Oakland to be a Teaching Fellow with AmeriCorps where I worked as part of the "second shift" of educators with a non-profit called Citizen Schools. I taught 6th grade with an emphasis on curriculum development for English Language Arts and was also the Family and Student Engagement Lead for the program. It was this experience that cemented my commitment in service to education. So, I attended the University of San Diego and received my Master of Arts degree in Counseling, emphasis on School Counseling with a Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential and am a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC).
I am dedicated to serving the needs of students, families, and staff through collaborative efforts. I firmly believe that all students have the potential for success. As a counselor, it is my mission to guide students to become independent learners capable of navigating life after high school.
Please feel free to contact me via email or by phone.
Here's to a great 2017-2018 school year! Go Falcons!
