COURSE DESCRIPTION
At the Spanish 1 level you will be able to communicate in Spanish in real-life situations through productive vocabulary, grammar lessons, class work, group work, independent writing activities, oral conversations, projects and presentations. Topics include the conjugation of several verb tenses as well as an exploration of culture and food in several Spanish speaking countries.
GRADING POLICY
The following scale is used to measure your class grade:
20% Exams (reading, writing, listening, and speaking)
20% Final / midterms
20% Quizzes/projects
40% Classwork, homework and participation
*Any grade lower than a C (below 65%) through the semester is considered not passing and you will need to make-up the credit by either taking summer school or retaking the course the following academic school year.
MOVIES/PELÍCULAS
At the end of the school year we will watch 1 of the following two movies.
- Bajo la misma luna - Under the same moon
- Voces inocentes
- If you wish for your child to NOT watch one or more of the movies, please check the box.
CLASSROOM PROTOCOLS
- You may not leave to use the restroom within the first ten minutes or the last ten minutes of class.
- Participation is essential. Spanish work only!
- Backpacks/purses must NOT be placed on the desks or on your lap so that you are 100% focused.
- NO FOOD. Beverages with a cap/lid are acceptable!
- Log into my Website weekly (O’Farrell Website) to check on homework, project, or test dates.

ATTENDANCE AND CLASS PARTICIPATION
- You are expected to arrive ON TIME, be a good listener, participate, and be prepared for class.
- If absent, it is your responsibility to make-up work. “I was absent” is not an acceptable excuse for coming to class unprepared.
HOMEWORK/PROJECT/EXAM POLICY
- Late work: If absent you have one week to make-up the exam. (Missed quizzes/exams are to be arranged with the
teacher).- Late projects will NOT receive full credit, unless you have an excused absence (online or w/ a note). Each project
needs to be turned in by the end of the current chapter in study.
- Late homework will receive half the credit unless you have an excused absence. You may not turn in homework from
previous chapters only in the current chapter you are studying.
