At the March 12, 2014 staff meeting, staff members met to provide feedback on the 8 state priority areas. Recommendations from staff for goal setting and actions are listed below. This feedback will be used to help create the LCAP plan.

 

1 .Providing all students access to fully credentialed teachers, instructional materials that align with state standards and safe facilities

  • Increase access to after school support classes in all content areas

  • Update curriculum to meet new CCSS standards

  • Campus needs to be closed, with all access coming directly through the main office, rather than an open gate

2. Implementation of California’s academic standards, including the Common Core State Standards n development, history social science, visual and performing arts, health education and physical education standards.

  • Increase expectation in all classes for written response with evidence

  • Continue providing access to common core training

3. Parent Involvement and participation, so the local community is engaged in the decision making process and the educational program of students.

  • Hold workshops for parents on various school related topics

  • Create volunteer opportunities for parents

  • Hold parent events to showcase student work

4. Improving student achievement and outcomes along multiple measures, including test scores, English proficiency and college and career preparedness.

  • Create a career preparedness program in high school

  • Increase availability of after school tutoring programs

  • Increase rigor in writing expectations for students

  • Teach writing, grammar and vocabulary through the skills class (middle school)

5. Supporting student engagement, including whether students attend school or are chronically absent.

  • Provide access to clubs and extracurricular activities to encourage student participation

  • Improve student attendance review process

  • Rewards for perfect attendance or improved attendance

6. Highlighting school climate and connectedness through a variety of factors, such as suspension and expulsion rates and other locally identified means.

  • Increase options for classroom consequences to lessen the likelihood of a formal referral

  • Rewards for perfect attendance, grades, etc

  • Have pre-printed postcards for teachers to send home positive notes to parents

  • Create a reward system for positive behavior recognition

7. Ensuring all students have access to classes that prepare them for college and careers, regardless of what school they attend or where they live.

  • Providing extra-curricular classes for high school students

  • College field trips for all students

  • Career preparation in high school

  • Pre-AP Training for middle school teachers

  • Provide training to increase rigor in all levels of classes (honor, core, strat, intervention, etc)

  • Integration of technology into classes (keyboards needed for iPad’s)

8. Measuring other important student outcomes related to required areas of study, including physical education and arts.

  • Set goals and increase accountability for physical fitness test results

  • Increase student access to health education, athletics and fine arts/performances
