Superintendent's Message

Welcome to The O'Farrell Charter School (A National AVID Certificated School). The O'Farrell Charter School is a community-oriented institution dedicated to fostering high academic standards, ensuring social and emotional growth, and maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for our entire student body. Through our homebase classes, the classroom teachers will provide skills conducive to the development of critical thinking, responsible decision-making, productive citizenship and individual creativity. High emphasis is placed on teacher/parent contact.

O'Farrell holds in high regard the FALCON Way. This describes the habits and character traits that students must have to attain high academic standards and demonstrate appropriate social and emotional growth during middle school (the Falcon is the mascot of the school). The word FALCON is an acronym to identify the key character attributes necessary to succeed in school: Focus, Attitude, Leadership, Citizenship, Organization, and Non-violence. With your support, The O'Farrell Charter School will advance your child's academic ability allowing a more fluent and successful transition into high school.

In the past two years, The O'Farrell Charter School has accomplished several milestones.  We are recognized for increasing the students daily instructional time to a yearly amount that tops most public educational institutions in the state.  O'Farrell has changed from using the San Diego SELPA (special education service) to the El Dorado SELPA which allows O'Farrell to better serve our special needs population.  O'Farrell has submitted to the state and has been accepted as a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation.  We have also introduced and established honors classes throughout the middle school to add a more challenging and rigorous environment for our students.  O'Farrell added and graduated its first 9th grade class this past year with close to 50% of the students participating in the Honor Roll throughout the school year.  Through the hard work of our Family Support Services, O'Farrell was awarded the Health Access Grant which assures our community equitable access to quality health care.  We are very excited to be recognized as the second charter school in the nation to achieve AVID National Demonstration School recodnition  - 2011/2012 school year.  Further, O'Farrell became recognized as a WASC Accredited Middle School (Western Accreditation of School and Colleges) in the spring of 2011.  O'Farrell will be opening doors to both an elementary and high school for the 2014/2015 school year.
